Deb DeCicco is a juried member of the New Hampshire Art Association and has been a visual artist for over 35 years working in drawing, watercolor, fiber arts, bookmaking and printmaking. This recent work focuses on botanical subjects in woodblock prints and drawings. The woodblock prints are done in the traditional method of moku hanga developed in Japan during the 18th century. Individual prints are made entirely by hand without the use of a press. The different colors are printed from separate, hand carved blocks using acid free paper, paint, brushes and a hand held baren. Each print is part of a numbered, signed edition.
The seemingly infinite variety of natural beauty, shapes and colors in the plants and flowers provides continual inspiration and challenges. They also bring opportunity for reflection on the circle of life as you see flowers in full bloom, flowers beginning to fade, buds about to open and dying leaves, all on one plant! It’s my hope that these drawings and prints will be a reminder to all of the natural beauty we see around us every day.
Woodblock prints are available from the artist (DebDeCicco@gmail.com) or from:
